Welcome
to Kassiopi
My
family and I have holidayed on Corfu for the last
thirty year's and it's our love of the island , Kassiopi
and the people that has kept us coming back , so
much so we decided to move there .
From Corfu town , airport , port , following a breathtaking
winding coastal road through small corfiot villages
, hillsides of cypress and olive groves , looking
out across the sea views to Albania , Kassiopi is
reached 36 km (22 mile) up the north-east tip of
the island.
Kassiopi has something for everyone , even reputedly
it's most famous visitor the Emperor Nero , who came
with the Roman occupation in 227 BC , and more recently
Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh was born here in
1921.
Like most visitors to Corfu , once visited you find
the warmth and friendliness of the locals stay's
with you , and you find yourself yearning to go back
year after year .

Beaches
Discover Kassiopi – Beaches,
coves, headlands and water sports
Most of the beaches are pebbly, small and
hidden away in stunning secluded spots. There
are two larger beaches further north - Kalamionas
and Imerolia - these have various water sports
on offer.
It’s easy to reach every Kassiopi beach,
all of which are clean and safe. You will
find EU blue flags here and at nearby Kalamionas
beach. Children in Kassiopi will enjoy the
flat main beach which is safely away from
traffic.
Other Kassiopi beaches and secluded coves
with fewer facilities are found around the
beautiful headland. Most Kassiopi beaches
are pebbly but there are plenty of them and
they can be charmingly small and secluded,
but it’s easy to walk to other longer beaches
and bays like Avlaki, Imerolia and Kalamionas
.
For the older children and adults alike explore the magical rocky coastline
overlooked by the highest mountain on the island Mount Pandorkrator , this
makes a great backdrop for fishing or just try out the snorkelling in the
crystal-blue waters.
There are water sports like water skiing and paragliding, as well as a diving
center, tennis courts and water parks (ten min's by bus) if your holidays in
Kassiopi gets too sedate!

Harbour
Enjoy a drink or a relaxing
meal at one of the many bars or restaurants
around this very charming traditional corfiot
harbour , relax watching local fishermen
selling their catch fresh from their boats
and both locals and tourists alike fishing
from the harbour .
Visit the local church on the harbour
, the Byzantine Castle/Fortress ruins ,
or just walk around the promenade to some
truly delightful beaches with crystal clear
Ionian waters .
Also if your lucky enough you might catch
a glimpse of one of the many local festivals
often held on the harbour very colourful
and can make your holiday .
Why not take an evening boat trip to Corfu
town where you can shop , sample many of
the fine restaurants and cafe culture that
Corfu town has to offer or take a horse
drawn carriage around the historical sights
.
This is a fantastic working harbour full
of hustle and bustle of the local way of
life and their interaction with tourism
, but at night it becomes a beautiful place
for your evening stroll along the harbour
promenade with its monuments and 14th century
cannon lined water front , huge garden
palms and seating area for watching time
pass , in the surrounding mountains , small
lights appear from houses that cannot be
seen in daylight and the harbour restaurants
and bars all lit up , one of the must see's
of kassiopi.

Castle
A Brief history....
The Romans first built the Castle/Fortress
on the heights above the Village ,since
then a Byzantine Emperor re-built on Roman
foundations the Fortress to protect the
villagers from Pirate and Turkish raids
round about 1140-1145.
Unfortunately not much is left of the
Old Fort as it was dismantled by the Venetians
in the 14 th century , most of the stone
going to good use by building some of the
fantastic architecture in Corfu Town ,
you can still explore and walk around the
ruins with some determination and is well
worth the effort.
From this fantastic viewing point you
can see the two main bays and harbours
that make up Kassiopi and look across the
narrow streets of mostly white buildings
with their red roof tiles straight onto
emerald and turquoise seas making Greek
pictures so distinct . Look out for the old Venetian Church near
the harbour and the old cannons rescued
from a sunken galleon.
